Rudy Seanez nearing deal with Angels
Free-agent reliever Rudy Seanez is close to signing a minor-league contract with the Angels, his agent told Diamond Notes today.
Seanez is expected to report to extended spring training and eventually pitch for Triple-A Salt Lake in hopes that a solid showing will merit him a call-up for his 18th major league season.
The 40-year-old right-hander made 42 appearances and won a World Series ring with the Phillies last year and was considering retirement before deciding against it this spring.
The Angels, whose bullpen has struggled this season, give him the opportunity to pitch close to his Southern California home.
