Dodgers sign Ramon Nivar
The Dodgers signed former Rangers and Orioles infielder Ramon Nivar to a minor-league contract and assigned the 29-year-old to Double-A Chattanooga. Nivar, who hasn’t appeared in the majors since 2005, was playing for the independent league Newark Bears this season.
Nivar takes the roster spot of infielder Tony Abreu, who was promoted to Triple-A Albuquerque after coming off the disabled list earlier this week. The Dodgers released left-hander Carmen Cali, a non-roster invitee in spring training who hasn’t been in the majors since 2007 with Minnesota.
Meanwhile, Valentino Pascucci has signed a minor-league deal with the Padres.
