The Padres have acquired catcher Yamid Haad from the Mariners organization and assigned him to Triple-A Portland. Haad has 18 games of major league experience, but managed to get suspended 50 games in 2006 for testing positive for a performance-enahancing substance while with the Giants.
Currently on San Diego’s major league roster is another catcher who has served a 50-game suspension while with the Giants. Eliezer Alfonzo tested positive in 2008. Both players were playing for Triple-A Fresno at the time.
