Kim Ng once mistaken for Dodger Stadium waitress

Justin Orenduff, a Dodgers first-round pick in 2004, apparently committed a major party foul during the college pitcher’s welcoming party at Dodger Stadium.

    From Brian Akin:

“Excuse me, waitress? I just saw someone walk by with some cheesecake and I was wondering if you knew where I could find some for myself…”

The young lady seemed a bit startled. She was really locked-in on the game and was surprised at Justin’s request. Partly because the game was nearly over, and partly because she was not a waitress - she was the assistant GM. Kim Ng, always the cool customer, got up from her seat and replied, “I’ll see what I can do.” She came back with a nice slice of cheesecake for Justin and returned to her seat.

Ng, following the firing of Jamie McCourt, can be considered the most powerful woman in the Dodgers organization. It’s expected she’ll be passed over for the GM job in San Diego, but she’s in line to one day become the first woman to hold such a position.

She’s had her share of run-ins through no fault of her own, but has had the dexterity to deal with them accordingly - everything from the assumptions of a flight attendant on the team charter to the ramblings of a rival executive at the GM meetings.

In the case of Orenduff, who announced his retirement earlier this year without having ever made it to the big leagues, she cut the kid some slack.
